Ouders krijgen rode kaart

Uit de Sydney Morning Herald van vandaag:

"Abusive parents might get red card"

  • Unruly parents risk a red card from the ref at junior sports meets under a new $200,000 campaign launched by the Queensland government.

Sports Minister Andrew Fraser has said the program would be introduced after a string of confrontations between players, parents and officials, some violent, which marred junior sports events last year.
In an attack which shocked many, two parents attacked a coach when he intervened to protect a teenage referee at an under-10 rugby league game in Logan, south of Brisbane.
The men were banned for life and charged with assault.
In another incident a month later, spectators at Ipswich, west of Brisbane, chased a 15-year-old rugby league referee with steel bars.
Mr Fraser said the program aimed to stamp out such inappropriate behaviour.
"Verbally abusive parents in particular have no place on the sideline of a junior sporting event," he said.
He said the True Sport Lives Here program contained a code of ethics, to be signed by parents, coaches, officials and players.
A red card system would also operate - the same as in soccer games - giving officials permission to yellow or red card people whose behaviour breaks the code of ethics, forcing them to leave the event.
And different uniforms would be worn by learner officials to encourage greater tolerance for the official's experience level.(...)
